I read Sweethearts before I ever saw a movie by either Nelson or Jeanette. It made me take a look at them and I love them! If nothing else, this book made me a fan forever! But as a rabid genealogist and historian, Sweethearts passes the sniff test for me. It is well documented and has extensive source documentation, not just the anonymous sources. Nelson, Jeanette and Gene come off as decent if sometimes flawed people who made mistakes like anybody else. Nelson’s wife? Not so much.

No, he wasn’t imbecile, he was merely in love with Jeannette, as much as this selfish man could be… Consequently he persecuted Nelson Eddy.

    The not news, news.

I won’t excuse you, because you are doing just what I tried to avoid; critisizing other peoples oppinions.I do believe that whatever Jeanette gave us was returned ten fold; and why do you assume I want her to suffer? I would rather believe she found happiness with a man who loved her, than with a bi-sexual abusive husband. Either way, I think she sadly, did suffer; but just hope that she found some happiness along the way, dispite ALL the bigoted interferance..

“Interesting that all of her sources are either dead or remain nameless.” Vague generalization…Obviously incorrect, since there are over 50 pages of source notes with name dropping of several famous people quoted in some length & alive when book was published. You are entitled to believe Jeanette was a virginal angel if you wish, that her marriage was made in heaven, etc. I prefer to see her as her own autobiography & 100s of pages of her handwritten letters present her – as a human being.

naw dude. I can't stand how people place it in high priority when there are real important matters to know about around the world. It's sad how our nation is rotting their brain with stupidity. I don't see shiz that should be interesting about the goings about of people who want to be known publicly. Am afraid there's nothing anyone can do about it. Stupidity is contagious and am afraid the US is largely contaminated with ignorance. I for one do not read or watch anything about celebretard gossip. I guess we can make a change by not falling into their magazines and gossip channels and websites.

What I never undstood is why would L.B. Mayer want to sabotoge his own players, viz. John Gilbert and Nelson Eddy. If they failed, then HE wold fail (to make money). If he didn’t like one of his players, all he had do was fire them. It has been so often stated Mayer took revenge of players he disliked, it’s almost a cliché. But makes absolutely no sense, Mayer may have been cruel, but he was not an imbécile?

  14. Anonymous says:

I’d actually heard that they had loved each other, which is why they had such great chemistry in movies, but they were both married in real life so treated each other horribly in public

  15. Wordpress says:

I have to say I can believe either way: idealistically I know that they were great buddies… and that is how I remember them: it is slightly to the darker side that I must turn to think otherwise, not so much of them as the times in which they lived. ‘An off-screen romance’ can mean anything from a buddy-buddy relaitonship to a passionate love affair. But what secrecy and lies the latter demands.. No; don’t believe it!

This is so true. The people who publish or commentate on celebrities are just doing their job as a profession whether it be a reporter, a journalist, a photographer or a person doing a 'simple' interview with a celebrity, but all this is not necessarily true information, stories, videos and photos are and can be made up to catch the public eye even if the information is completely false people will buy it. So I think it's the followers that are worse because they sometimes seem to believe anything and everything.
